Goldie in the city

I am taking a break from all this nature and wilderness talk. Back in Beijing, it’s Goldie spinning at Vic’s - one of the bigger superclubs in Beijing. Still with dirt under my fingernails, I am feeling less than glam, but it can’t be helped. A party person like me would find it hard to pass up a Goldie event. The last time I went to his set was at Bar Rhumba - Metalheadz on Thursdays. I am a fan of dnb music, where the beats are hard, and the buzz never quite leaves your brain.
Dinner with Dennis at a char chan teng (茶餐厅). its been a long time sitting in a dinner spot with great food. I order up a mince beef with raw egg and eggplant with chilli, salted fish and minced meat. Ok, this is a dinner for 2 and Dennis is apalled. He can’t quite believe i am eating that much. Actually i cant believe i am eating that much either… ah well….
finally, back in civilization! The posh club of Vic’s sports velour, sexy chandeliers, a kicking sound system and sexy vibes.
Tonight’s event has drawn in all the cute, the hip, the beautiful and the expat to the event. While it was probably mostly foreigners, spotted with their local girlfriends, it was one of those nights where everyone was dressed amazingly, spoke perfect english and came from somewhere else other than Beijing. My kind of scene. I make the acquintance of Tito and Eva, who works at Time Out and we get to party with their crew of with-it people.
Having been to so much dnb gigs in my life, this one is a first. Mcee-ing in Mandarin. Beijing is fascinating that way, unexpected and free. its totally up to u to make out what you want of it. There is edge, tradition and culture, both modern and pop. Tonight has a lot of chinese kids have parents of mixed parentage and thus have begun a new sound of mcee-ing in half english and half mandarin. very cool.
The crowd is pumping and the bass is killing me. Goldie comes on stage to a totally mad crowd.
The next thing i love about dnb music….No pickups. It’s one of those dance music forms where you solely react to the music and its about the bass, the toplines and the mcee-ing. Listen to house if u want to get laid, listen to hip hop if u want to feel like a mcdaddy with a big swinging dick, listen to dnb if you just want to be with yourself.
The less disreputable Dennis lee:
Thank you Beijing. Signing out.

I am so jealous that you got to see Goldie in Beijing. That is just off the wall…
If you ever are in London try and time it with a Hospitality at Heaven party (www.hospitalrecords.com). One of the most epic parties I’ve ever been to
