The Rakes n Shakes

It was good to watch The Rakes in action again, this time at a smaller arena. the energy was a lot homier and much nicer. Plus, i got to take loads of fotos to make up for the last concert! I love the guitarist, Matthews kills me. He is like an uber cool Bill gates…i like!
The Rakes had an extra keyboardist on tour - using a Nord Led…I SO WANT THAT KEYBOARD…it has some of the most brilliant keyboard sounds - very deep and resonating and to match, so very cool old midi-type sounds too. i have had this convo before with several of my musician friends and while the whole world is moving to software synth sounds and patches, i am still a hardware girl. i love touching keypads and being able to twist knobs - drives me wild!! ok, back to gushing about The Rakes, Alan was funny and gawky and the crowd was 100% indie electro, so it was much fun. I have to admit, my skinny jeans were not as skinny as some of the talents on display.
uber cool moment: crazy girls waving softoy bananas (a la velvet underground and nico) jump onto stage, making Alan almost uncool in comparison.
A high pour moi: I guessed that the set ending track would be 22 Grand Job and that Strasbourg would be an encore track. Baby, i love it when i am RIGHT! woo hoo…now, to put my clairvoyant skils to more economically useful endevours - such as guessing the lottery…
Havent had much time to process the pics but thankfully, Nick helped some. Roadtrip to Paris was fun, loaded with cool tunes and irate drivers, but Ed lived through it all being absolutely cool. If it were me, i would have died trying to manual gear my way through paris in rush hour traffic. Check out da pics!
Post concert, we all bought badges and big it up for Holly, Ed and Nim who were deep in the mosh pit and came out DRIPPING. salute! we hit The Truskel next but the music was so-so, it was OBSURE indie night (ie no indie Top 10 hits), mixed in with 80’s tracks from Cher and Bananarama - very weird. We bailed given the lack of dance floor space and tried to hit Favela Chic but the music was soft. Then got politely refused from a pretentious posh-ish R&B joint. I guess, since all of us were in our skinny jeans garb, it wasnt hip to the hype enuff for the bouncer. aw, fucker!
one kebab and chips later, we are driving home. what a day…well, njoy da pics!
